Child Care Offer
The Welsh Government’s Childcare Offer for Wales means that many parents of 3 to 4 year olds can receive help with childcare costs.
This means 30 hours of combined government funded nursery early education and childcare in Wales for eligible parents. The 30 hours is made up of a minimum of 10 hours of nursery education a week and a maximum of 20 hours a week of childcare.
This is usually from the term after the child’s third birthday, until they are eligible to receive a full-time education (school) place – usually the September after their fourth birthday.
Tax Free Childcare
Tax-Free Childcare can help with the cost of paying for childcare.
You’ll need to set up a childcare account, which both you and the government will pay into. You can then use this money to pay your childcare provider.
For every £8 you pay into the account, the government will top it up by £2.
The total top up you can get for each child is £500 every 3 months (up to £2,000 a year). This goes up to £1,000 every 3 months if your child is disabled (up to £4,000 a year).
Flying Start Funded Childcare
All children living in a Flying Start area are entitled to a funded childcare place from the term following their second birthday up until the end of the term that they turn three and are eligible for an Early Years Education place.
Regular part-time attendance at high quality childcare has shown to significantly improve outcomes for children. If you live in a Flying Start area, we encourage you to take up your childcare place.
Children are entitled to a 2.5 hour session per day, 5 days a week, term time only. There may be circumstances, such as working families, who wish to use 2 sessions per day to support their work pattern. You can discuss this with your chosen Flying Start childcare provide
The Road to Bilingualism
The Road To Bilingualism is a programme designed to support early years settings wishing to increase the use of Welsh Language. The aim is to deliver enough resources and guidance to allow early years settings to become language rich environments.
